The force and the essence of Pocoyo’s record :)

This CD would have been impossible without Maria and Pedro. Pedro’s incredible patient and hard work have been indispensable to make this happen! He has tried to keep all the deadlines, to call everyone that participated in the recordings, organizing trips, negotiating, etc… Madness!

Maria, on the other hand, has been a very significant piece of this project. She had all the time great and revolutionary ideas. At some point, we were even afraid of her because that could mean that we need to revise all again and again… We had so many different proposals that we were a bit lost – We need to take some time to decide the next step.
That helped us a lot and we saw clearly what we really wanted at the end, also from the commercial point of view.

We have to admit that Maria has been a key person on the record!

Our main intention with this CD is that the parents want it for their children… and for themselves. We want the record to be listened at parties, to put it on and on and the music of Pocoyo never stops… We want people to enjoy it – if possible, as much as we did while we recorded it.

Is singing something just for kids?

Another funny and laborious phase was recording the children. We chose various different profiles in order to cover all the CD needs.

We counted on Pablo, Dani’s son (the music of the company), and his good friend, Enrique. Both of them were extremely affectionate and did a great job. At that time, they both were 3 years old. Too young to be able to sing properly, but they were absolutely self-confident and funny!

On the top of that, we counted on a boy and a girl from the Chorus of Madrid. Their style was more academic and cold – But with them, we compensate the little technique of the others… We got a good compromise!

Moreover, we needed some boys and girls to answer the questions from the narrator. We wanted kids without shyness and they enjoyed while we recorded them. We had a good idea: they had to know each other – they needed to be school friends. So we called our friend Marina, a teacher from a school that helped out in other occasions. She selected the appropriate group of kids and she brought them to our offices. We spent a fabulous afternoon all together recording the CD.

With that, we had all what we needed. After that, it was time to select the better audio material and to keep what we really wanted…

Pocoyo’s record is a top 10!!

Not even in a week-time, Pocoyo’n new musical record, “Fiesta”, became one of the most sold records in Spain – according to GFK and Promusicae official data (Spanish music producers).  Specifically, it got 40th position! Just behind the King of Pop.

Dani, Nahúm, Alaska, Edurne, Pedro, María, Giu, the kids and the rest of the people who has collaborate on it perfectly know the affection and the illusion that has this project.  But this is not all: after 15 days in the market, ¡“Fiesta” is top 10 of Spanish music sales! Together with artist like Pereza, Carlos Baute, Michael Jackson or Coldplay – Amazing! This is a real fiesta now!!

The record, produced by Zinkia, it is being commercialized by Big Picture and has been edited and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment. “Fiesta” is basically a set of 13 funny songs – that tries to make interaction with the kids through games, riddles and choreography. The CD has been launched with a DVD that includes videos, such as “Pocoyo Dance” or “Pocoyo Surf Dance” – among others.

We wish all kids and parents enjoy this record as much as we did creating it in Zinkia. And if they do, we are fully convinced that “Fiesta” will be a must in any kid’s party.

Step by step…

When we started to write the words for the songs, we realized we did not know how to proceed. We did not know how a song for kids should be. We did not want to be too naïf but we did not want to look too pretentious. It was tough at the beginning. But working hard, we learnt how to differentiate a good from a bad song. We found a style which we feel comfortable with – even though this is something you appreciate some years later. We have been so focused on the right sound that we don’t know any longer how far we are now…

We discovered that what really worked out was simplicity. We make simple but funny songs. At least, we had good fun recording them! We felt like kids at some point…
