Why Pocoyo?

Logoname_1 Pocoyo doesn´t mean exactly “little me” in Spanish (but it´s mean is quite similar). The real translation of it would be more like “not much me” o “a little bit me” but in actual fact it is a word or a construction that exists neither in Spanish nor in English (I´m almost positive!). The real story behind the name is much more enchanting (especially for me...).

When we started the series my daughter Vega was 2 years old. Every night before bed she used to say a little prayer that goes “baby Jesus light of my life, you are a child like me” (In Spanish, Jesusito de mi vida, tú eres niño como yo). Because she still couldn´t talk properly, instead of saying "como yo” at the end of the prayer, she used to say “poco yo”!

We all love the funny little things our children say at this age, but I thought this one would make a great name for the series, and I managed to convince everyone! I love thinking that the title of a series and a character that is alive in many people´s minds, that is being watched in many countries, that is the star of books and toys and is almost a brand name, is a word invented by a child, a mixup of words …. My daughter´s words! (:-D)

Thats sweet.. You know David I've been thinking why Pocoyo is so popular and loved by us older people...

I think for older people, pocoyo is the part of them that was left behind when they grew up, pocoyo is neither boy nor girl, pocoyo is basically the little kid inside you that wants to play but can't because you have to be grown up :-)

Thats why it strikes a chord with so many, it's an outlet to have fun and a great reminder that we don't have to be grown up all of the time... I mentioned in an earlier post that to me pocoyo reminds me of me when i was little dancing to music and going in the huff :-)

P.s. following on the line of requests, heres a long shot... is there any chance we could we have some more pocoyo wallpapers.

Being a dj I'd love to see pocoyo on the decks lol but i find that hard to see happening hehe..

That's a lovely little story, and as I myself have a daughter who's nearly 2, it's one I can really relate to!

I love that story! Truth is stranger than fiction. :)

I've also been analysing why Pocoyo appeals so much to the grown-ups, but it doesn't seem to appeal to ALL grown-ups so perhaps it touches something that exists only in some of us. Maybe it is the little child in us, or maybe Pocoyo is so real to us that we're drawn to him, to cuddle him and interact with him and be amused by him as we were our own children when they were little. I love kids, so maybe that has a lot to do with it as well. :)

His laughter, his giggles, his facial expressions, his bad moods, his determination, his curiosity, are all elements that make me want to mother him!

Whatever it is, it's working, so don't change it!

Denise :)

I have a 10 month old son who LOVES Pocoyo. As sso as he hears the theme tune he waves at the TV, finds his Pocoyo doll and bangs it on the TV screen.

I desperately want him to be like Pocoyo as he grows up - Pocoyo is so full of joy and mischief, and he does a fabby dance!

Dawn, children are happy when they know they're loved. :)

i think it's great. really gets up the "inner child" in me!!!!!
Thanks a heap!!!!
(and Pocoyo)

Huge fan of Pocoyo. My son first saw it when he was about 4 months old, and it was one of the few things that quietened him. Now at almost a year he gets a daily dose of Pocoyo. The whole family love it! Especially the episode with Pato and the mud... teaching kids about OCD at an early age??? :-D

Great blog. Great pictures, am tryng to make a Pocoyo birthday cake so they're great reference.

Finally, a site for Pocoyo. He's so adorable child. Not only does it relate to my 3yo son but also to us adult. True, it brings out the inner child in us. Never will I get tired watching him. Great work!

HI! I fell in love with Pocoyo since last year when I noticed my younger sister watching it. And I've been a big fan ever since!

It wasn't until recently that I went back to the pocoyo site (it was very minimal last year wasn't it?) and I noticed there was a blog! Being a young designer (and aspiring animator) it's great to see how the production came about and the story behind all the characters.

Keep it up! YEAH!

i have allways been a fan of pocoyos since the begining and since i have basicly worshiped him (sorry about spelling)

NOW THE TRANSLATION FOR WICH THEY DO NOT SPEAK SPANISH:
hello, I am 12 years old and I must say that it enchants pocoyo to me! The boy is so pretty.... (obvious I like the boy along with pato, the series is for children). I see almost all the days it.... Pocoyo lives!

Hello, my family and I now live in New Zealand and are trying to find a Pocoyo Doll for my 21 month old daughter, could someone please tell me where I could order one please.

Hi Lorraine

You can order a Pocoyo plush toy from http://www.1stfortoys.co.uk/

I did, for my 11-year old daughter :-)

Hello from Malaysia.. My kids and I loved Pocoyo. For me its the simple lines and unbounded world... reminds me of simpler childhood times.

Everyone else has been saying how much their young children enjoy pocoyo, but im 16, and my brother is 14, and we both enjoy a bit of pocoyo! It is just so cute and funny. If i found a pocoyo dvd, i might even buy it just so my children (in the distant future) could watch and dance!

I´d like to say David and all his crew a big "congratulations!!" for all that well earned success that's Pocoyó; in fact, we all of the series fans in Latin America, are proud of it, and, like a plus, that David is latin-born like us... I can surely say that Vega, when she grow up, will be very proud too about all: her father`s work, the impact that Pocoyó made in everyone of us, kids or not, and on top of it, the effect the saga does and will keep doing fore years (we hope for many too)on our children, and their children before they

Blessings for all of you, and...

Hooray for Pocoyó!!

see you soon...

my son really loves watching pocoyo..... he's 1 year and he's watching as if he already know what pocoyo is doing....... he always smile when the intro is playing. :-)

is ellie a boy or girl ?

Heh, heh... it's strange, considering I'm nearly 16 and yet I still adore Pocoyo and Pingu. I find the two both very enchanting and cute, even if sometimes I think Pocoyo might be better off without narration. Either way, I still love it, so great job on it. Oh, and also, thanks to your daughter for the great title name. ^_^

Yes,my son LOVES Pocoyo over her in the U.S. I would like to get him the doll and my nephew. Where do you purchase them?

Thanks. L

Pocoyo brings what we call happiness, in some kinda way happiness migh be different to all people, but surely pocoyo can make that feeling into one perception. viva pocoyo
